Paul Parzen

 
As a senior IT leader Paul combines technology expertise with financial, business, and process acumen, uniquely positioning him to create enterprise value by leveraging digital innovation. Currently the Director, IT with Tara Energy Services, Paul’s career includes numerous successful roles in the energy and financial services sectors where he supported growth by aligning technology priorities with enterprise goals. Starting out as a CPA, Paul’s career progression includes roles with both Grant Thornton and KPMG where he honed his financial and risk management expertise. Building on this, Paul joined Compton Petroleum where he led development and execution of IT strategies and ensured strong governance and risk management by building critical internal controls. Paul then joined Jupiter Resources at its inception (Jupiter was Canada’s largest-ever oil and gas start-up at the time) where he envisioned and implemented an IT platform focused on best-in-class cost metrics and highest productivity assets. Paul’s ability to enable business performance and integrations by leveraging innovation and data is also evident through his consulting contributions in both the financial services and energy sectors. In addition to his day to day, Paul actively fosters community and knowledge development amongst technology professionals as the Past President and Treasurer of the CIO Association of Canada (Calgary Chapter). Paul’s motivation to push the boundaries of technology is grounded in the possibilities – he seeks out opportunities to improve performance by challenging the status quo. Paul holds a BBA in Accounting, is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and holds certifications in Enterprise IT Governance (CGEIT) and Information System Auditing (CISA).
